Knossos
Visiting the Palace of Knossos, you travel to the depths of European history.
The oldest civilization in Europe, the legends of King Minos and the Minotaur and the palace artwork continue to inspire many generations of artists to this day.
What you see is actually the second reconstruction of the largest Minoan palace in Crete, after the first was destroyed by an earthquake around 1700 BC. This period, known as the New-Palace, coincides with the peak of Minoan civilization.
The palace was terribly sophisticated and had drainage systems, luxurious, five-story houses and murals that decorated the walls in a unique way. It is said that it looked like a labyrinth - hence its connection with the myth of the Minotaur. Eventually, it was destroyed by an earthquake and abandoned forever around 1600 BC.
The awe that the palace will cause you, traveling you about 4000 years back, is worth the effort to visit it since it is only 6km from Heraklion. KretaCars with the economy and new vehicles that offers you, will make your trip comfortable and enjoyable.
